You read it here first.
The more observant of you may have noticed toned down postings on my LJ of late. Well, there is a reason for that. I have reached the end of my subscription and I don't want to renew. There are many reasons for this. But crucially, tomorrow's LJ post will be my last.
But fear not, I will still post here, for now. DW has become, for many, a dumping ground for their LJ. I don't want mine to be like that. I want mine to be distinctly different. A more serious, semi-political journal with a touch of homegrown cyncism and social observation. See it as graduating from primary school to secondary school.
My reasons for departing LJ include:
- I can't be arsed
- Nobody reads me and those that do don't comment often
- I'm not the same person I was 5 years ago
- It costs too much to run LJ, extra icons AND photobucket
- I can't be arsed
- Other reasons I'm not going into here
- The growing army of spammers
- LJ is now shabby and resembles an award winning council estate that has fallen into disrepair.
- Policy issues
- You can't be arsed
- I want to move to Dreamwidth
- I get all my LJ gossip elsewhere.
But like I said, you read it here first, not that many people read DW at the moment. No doubt a few will come along tomorrow after my announcement but I don't see them hanging round for long. The internet and the way we use it has changed. There are exciting new things afoot. I intend to be riding the crest of that wave. LJ is no longer a viable surfboard.
Watch this space.

So welcome to the club! I will read often. <3

Date: 2009-06-18 05:32 pm (UTC)Then I had a moment of mad panic, while I tried out one of the codes you posted and hoped I'd got one in time!!! I didn't really know if I wanted a dreamwidth account - but I thought I'd bloody well better get one while I had the chance, just in case.
Then I calmed down a little and thought about how you're right. Starting my LJ (back about the time you started yours, I believe) was exciting. It felt like a new internet adventure. Over the years, though, I feel like my journal has lost focus. Recently I've been trying to find a way to make it feel more like it represents me again - and I've been failing to come up with anything that's worked. Massively failing. Moreover, LJ itself has become corporate and bloated and has begun to feel more and more like some kind of Russian-oligarchy alternative to facebook - and facebook's bad enough tankyouverymuchta.
So I get this. Whatever "this" is!
...and I think it might be just what I need... :)
Mind if I come along for the ride? :D
